Sturgis 2002

We rode about 5000 miles in 21 days. As usual, we tried to avoid the highways whenever we could and found some beautiful scenic roads.

On the way, we rode through Connecticutt into New York City, where we stayed for a couple of days.
From there, we went up along the Hudson River for a bit, then west across Pennsylvania and north to Lake Erie.

We followed the shore of the lake into Ohio, then continued west through Indiana to the southern tip of Lake Michigan and Chicago.

We then followed the western shore of Lake Michigan north into Wisconsin, where we turned west to Prairie Du Chein, Iowa on the Mississippi River.

(With a name like Barnstorm Cycles, we can't help but stop to admire some of the barns along the way.)

We rode the scenic roads along the shores of the Mississippi to Minneapolis and Saint Paul.
There, we picked up the Minnesota River and headed west through South Dakota.

About a hundred miles before Sturgis, near the east entrance to the Badlands, is one of my favorite stops, Prairie Homestead.

Of course, we detoured through the Badlands.

And then onward to Sturgis!

Don't miss the Party in Hulett, Wyoming!

And if you have gone as far as Hulett, you may as well ride a little further to Devil's Tower.

Then back to Sturgis for more fun and games.

We visited Mount Rushmore, like good little tourists.

A ride on Iron Mountain Road, with its "Pigtail" turns and three tunnels, is an absolute necessity.

Then one more night on Main Street in Sturgis before heading home to the Northeast.

Our last night on the road was at Phelsen House Bed and Breakfast in Mayville, New York, at Lake Chautauqua.
